Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath has accused his team of lacking the passion, heart and soul shown by the club’s supporters. For everybody’s sake, it’s to be hoped he hasn’t JUST spotted that these vital ingredients appear to be missing – after all, they have not been on show for most of the season.

Redpath’s charge comes between two Heineken Cup games against Glasgow, who won the first game in Scotland last Friday night with so much so spare that the return at Kingsholm on Sunday could be a foregone conclusion – unless there’s a massive response to Redpath’s rant.
As if a game on a Sunday lunchtime at 12-45 isn’t inconvenient enough, when all decent folk should be at home having a proper Sunday lunch, watching Glaws at the moment is becoming very hard work as Redpath’s team insist on blowing hot (well, luke-warm) and cold.
Redpath has made the players watch the recording of the first Glasgow game this week, and many of them should have been looking at it from behind the sofa or through their fingers, it was so bad.
He says that the video gives the players the chance to take another look at the game and ask if how the game went for individuals and for the team was good enough.
He told the Citizen: "Some Gloucester people travelled up and they base their support, a lot of it, on passion, heart and soul. The video never lies.
"We have 11 or 12,000 Gloucester supporters to answer to next week. You can ask questions about why we didn't turn up, why we didn't do some of our basics right, why we looked lacklustre.

"We've got to sort out what happened. I'm chuffed that we've got them back this week because we didn't give account of ourselves on Friday."
There are very strong signs that the sort of unwavering support Glaws have always been able to rely upon through thick and thin is beginning to slacken off.

The obvious question is "why does Redpath feel the need to demand passion from the players?". Surely, even as pro players with no particular tie to the area/club, one thing you should expect automatically is commitment? Maybe not 'for the shirt' but certainly for the players' own reputation. I cant remember seeing an Edwards or a Cockerill having to demand passion and commitment from their respective sides. Worrying, very worrying.
