JSD out of England squad

JSD - out again

There's mixed news for Gloucester as England coach Martin Johnson cuts his World Cup training squad down to 30 - Mike Tindall and Charlie Sharples look set to make the journey to New Zealand, but James Simpson-Daniel misses out again.

That means the man many people regard as one of the unluckiest players on the England scene not to have won more caps, JSD will hopefully be available to start the season with the cherry and whites in September.

It’s the latest in a long line of England sickeners for Sinbad, but every cloud has a silver lining and this one will hopefully give him back to Glaws for the opening month or more of the season.

Johnson justified his decision by saying: “Simpson-Daniel has had a couple of niggling injuries and a bit of illness.”

Meanwhile newly-wed Tindall and new-boy Sharples are in the 30-man squad, as Glaws brace themselves for the squad announcements from other international bosses as the World Cup approaches.

Meanwhile, Luke Narraway believes experience – the sort of experience JSD has – could be vital in the new season.

His pre-season build-up disrupted after surgery on a back injury, he told the Citizen: "It is a new squad coming together including a lot of youngsters with the World Cup coming up.

"With the best leaders, it is not what you say, it is what you do. So if I was to be out there again as captain that would be brilliant.

"There is not a lot of experience so I would love to be out there, but also you have seasoned professionals like Andy Hazell and Peter Buxton.

"They have been around here for over ten years and played at the top level for a decade.

"They will ensure they pass all their experience on to the youngsters We have to make sure we stick together as we did last year because at the end of it that is what the majority of rugby games come down to."
