EFS - more trouble

Facing their final Premiership game for a couple of weeks, allowing for a brief spell of LV= Cup matches, Gloucester travel to Stockport on Saturday to face the revived Sale Sharks. And a week later, the fixture is reversed in the LV as the Sharks head for Kingsholm.

Making even longer journeys this week have been most of the club’s World Cup players.

Coach Bryan Redpath is as interested in the World Cup as the next man, but with the tournament in New Zealand now down to eight teams, he’s even more interested in seeing some of his players start to return to the fold.

Six of the seven Glaws players who have been on duty down under are due back now, and Redpath told the club website: “That can only improve the strength of the squad and make it better,

“We maybe haven’t been as efficient and fluid as some people might have wanted, but we have had to be pretty smart in what we’ve done.

“We’ve won three out of five, and it should have been four.”

The Harlequins game still leaves a bitter taste, but Redpath will be laying out the welcome mat for five Scots, Fijian Akapusi Qera and Samoa’s Eliota Fuimaona-Sapolu, who is facing a misconduct charge after his latest bout of tweets accused Welsh ref Nigel Owens of bias in his handling of Samoa’s defeat against South Africa.

After apologising for a previous outburst in the tweetosphere, the Glaws centre clearly has outspoken views and is not afraid to voice them. However, he needs to be careful how he phrases his arguments.

Hopefully, when he gets back to Kingsholm he will let his rugby do the talking, but just when he and the rest of the returning players will be available remains to be seen.
