Ben Morgan - homecoming

After what happened at Leicester, Gloucester needed a pick-me-up - and they got it when it was confirmed that local lad Ben Morgan has signed for his home club and will be adding his immense presence to the pack next season.

The Scarlets back-row man is only 23, but already an England player and clearly a man for the future both for club and country.

And after the news that Luke Narraway and Alasdair Strokosch are heading for pastures new, the signing of Morgan excites the fans, and even coach Bryan Redpath.

He told the Citizen: "I think Ben has only really scratched the surface of what he's capable.

"It's only really in the last couple of years that he has hit a level where he can be particularly dangerous in punching big holes in opposition defences.

"Stepping up and producing that at Heineken Cup level is probably what alerted a lot of people to his ability, and it's certainly helped him kick on in terms of international recognition as well.

"His powerful and direct approach will definitely add another dimension to our game, and that's what we're after."

Meanwhile, Glaws need to recover from the Tigers mauling … and Redpath is convinced they can.

He believes the defeat doesn’t mean Glaws are out of the running for a top-four place and added: “We’re not out of the play-off run at all, we’ve got five games to go and you never know because anyone can beat anyone.

“There’s a lot of dogfights between now and then.

 “This was a great kick up the backside for us. We were second-best in most things, we’ve been well beaten but it’s happened and we’ve got to move on.

Glaws have a break now before their next game against Exeter and Redpath is determined to use it:  “The break is a good thing, because of our smaller squad taking its toll.

“So we can recover next week and then come back in the week after, and that should be a massive spur for Exeter.”

Glaws have two blank weekends now, while many of their top-four rivals are in cup action and Redpath will be hoping that will be a major boost for the cherry and whites, but of course they must do a lot better than they did at Welford Road.
