Tragic death of Glaws legend

"Legend" is a much over-used word in sport nowadays, and few of those to whom it is applied really deserve the description. John Brain, on the other hand, was a legend.

Tragically dead at the age of just 51 after a heart attack, he made almost 300 Glaws appearances before turning to coaching.

He was assistant at Kingsholm before guiding Worcester into the Premiership then moving to Bristol as forward coach before returning to Gloucester in 2010 and becoming rugby operations manager last summer.

Tributes to Brain have been many and will continue from all parts of the rugby community for some time as the shock of his untimely death sinks in.

A player from the old school, who worked for a living and played for a hobby, Brain knew the game inside out, and many in the game knew him and regarded him as a friend.

His death at such an early age really is a tragedy and he really was a legend.
