Glaws prospects looking good

Pre-season in France went like a dream, the Kingsholm leg of the Premiership Sevens was a roaring success, the new coach is impressing everyone he deals with, the new players are looking good and a lot of old ones appear to have got a new lease of life.

What's not to feel hopeful about at Gloucester?

On top of all those plusses, the crowd produced the sort of roar that has made Kingsholm famous as the Glaws sevens team qualified for the finals in style.

Of course, any cherry and whites fan with the slightest amount of experience will remind us that we have started many a previous season full of hope, and a lot of them have turned out to be false dawns.

Let’s not count any chickens just yet, but on the other hand let’s hope what we are seeing is a taste of what’s to come.

As sevens skipper Jonny May said last week, this is a whole new era for Gloucester and he believes that if the team can keep the ball, a lot of opposition teams are going to be terrorised.

Let’s hope he’s right.

Meanwhile, the draw for the Amlin Cup gives Glaws an opening game at newly-promoted Mont-de-Marsan on Thursday October 11, and a week later Bordeaux Begles are at Kingsholm, both games to be shown live on Sky.

Jan 10-13 – Bordeaux Begles (a)

Jan 17-20 - Mont-de-Marsan (h)
