Fans - need patience

Nigel Davies says there's no need to panic after Gloucester's opening day home defeat at the hends of Nortahmpton, and of course the coach is quite right to avoid over-reacting to a game his team just might have won, despite an awful first half. 

Hopefully the fans will follow suite … if Glaws can learn from their mistakes and accept the advice not to panic, they have the chance to put things right when they travel to reading to face London Irish on Saturday.

Davies, who added Italian international hooker Tommaso d’Apice to his pro squad this week, said that he was disappointed by his team’s weak start against Saints and by their unfortunate failure to earn something with their second-half fightback.

But he believes they can learn from the game and told the Citizen: "What the players will take from that is that we don't need to panic. If we play to our game and play to our structures and we use territory and play in the right areas, then we've got the capability to beat sides.

"Northampton are without a shadow of a doubt one of the top teams in Europe, they've proved that over the last couple of years, and we were very close to beating them.

We did enough in that second half probably to win that game.

"There's no doubt they were in complete control of that first half, but we probably had 90 per cent of the second.

"They've been together three years and know each other inside out, while we've only been together three months. And that probably showed a little bit."

Unfortunately, there are those in the stands who are already asking questions of Davies … they are probably the same people who will claim credit for his appointment if Glaws get their first win at Reading.

Meanwhile, the REAL supporters will hopefully be more patient.
