Preparing for a return to Premiership rugby with a home hammering at the hands of old rivals Bath is not ideal, but Gloucester have to use the setbck as a springboard for recapturing their better form.

It’s never easy during the Six Nations, when so many changes are forced on teams, but generally it’s the same for them all and it’s up to Glaws to respond to the situation.

They also lost to the Saints, of course, during their failed LV= Cup break, and this weekend would be the perfect time for a revival.

The players admit it’s a make-of-break game, one that could decide their whole season, and they need to put the Bath demolition behind them and step up to the mark.

We've just got to use this as motivation now.

Forwards coach Carl Hogg was as shocked as anyone by last weekend’s abject failure at Kingsholm, and he told the Citizen: “We've got to harness the hurt and frustration and make sure we channel it into producing a result that can get us moving in the right direction again.

"The main factor is the amount of penalties we conceded and we need to cut that down.

"We've got to learn the lessons, we've got to move fast, emotionally and mentally. It's a huge game this week now, and we've got to turn it all round.

"It's our biggest challenge now. Everyone needs to realise that, everyone does realise that, so it's time to make it count.

Generally overall we're in a decent enough situation where the league is concerned.

"Clearly that does not take into account the defeat to Bath, but we have to remember that it's not all doom and gloom.

"We've got an immediate opportunity to redeem ourselves, and that's exactly what we intend to do."
