The hurt is probably still there, but Gloucester coach Nigel Davies is hoping his players return to full training this week determined to make amends for their derby defeat at Bath and use their long break as a springboard into the top four.
Davies wasn’t happy with the set piece at the Rec and will be working on that after giving his players time to recuperate – now they have two weeks to prepare for the home Premiership game against crisis club London Welsh at the start of a vital series of games.
That is followed by two more home matches, against champions Harlequins in the Premiership and Biarritz in Europe.
The coach told the club website: “The players have had a week off and will hopefully come back fully energised for the two weeks leading into the London Welsh game.
“We’ve got everything to play for and we have to step it up now and drive hard for that top four place.
“It’s going to go to the wire. All the clubs in the top half have difficult games and it could all go down to a couple of results.”
Beating Welsh is vital, of course, but it’s result against the likes of Quins and, three weeks later, at home to Saracens that will decide this season.
