It was always just a hope but sadly there are no Gloucester players in the Lions squad. Jonny May and Ben Morgan were tipped but when the likes of Chris Robshaw can't get passed the Welsh selection squad you cannot really moan too much ..
There weren't too many other surprises in the selection apart from Matt Stevens but perhaps he was helped by having retired from playing for England. Of course, he's also a very good singer and that also always goes down well in the valleys.
Moving away from being churlish [I admit it] it has to be said it is a strong squad if a little safety first.
O'Driscoll is in and the English contingent comes from Sarries and Tigers with BOTH the Youngs boys in there. Sam Warburton is confirmed as skipper and there is no Jonny Wilkinson.
Gatland says he chose his squad based on physicality. Good luck to them and here's hoping for a series win.
