Even a level one coach could spot the problems besetting Gloucester after this lesson in power rugby from the Chiefs. The 29-12  scoreline wasn't a fair reflection - Exeter should have won by a bigger margin.

So often over the years we have seen a Glaws pack shoving their opponents backwards at a rate of knots. To have it done so often to us was a culture shock which had the faithful shaking their heads.

Nigel Davies has come out and admitted as much, and now he and his forwards coaches are ruminating on whether it is a lack of bulk and strength or poor technique which is costing us. Possibly both.

A solution is needed quick. We have some epic games coming up against notable scrummaging outfits including Perpignan at the weekend.

The Chief's forwards gave kicker Steenson a steady run of penalties all afternoon and he missed two easy chances before he got his range.

We came back with nice scissors involving Burns and Twelvetrees to set Martyn Thomas up with the first try of the day.

Steenson's missed a couple of more shots but managed one from underneath the posts before Ben White charged over after a line-out in the corner to make it 13-5 at the break.

Tindall tackled Mumm without the ball shortly after the restart and Steenson managed his third goal.

We then had our best spell of the game but Exeter managed to repell the attacks, and when they got back into our half Burns stuck out a hand and was fortunate only to concede a knock-on.

However Exeter shoved us backwards at a rate of knots with Mumm eventually going over.Gloucesters James Simpson-Daniel is caught by Exeters Sam Hill during the Aviva Premiership match at

The potential of our backs was shown with the next score - what could they do with more and better ball? Jonny May was the scorer after he came from deep to scorch over the line.

Exeter reacted by smashing our scrum once again and Steenson got his fourth pen followed by a fifth when we killed the ball under the posts.

Beastings this week I think.
