Nobody would argue that covid has created problems for every club in terms of getting bodies on the pitch. However, the lateness of Worcester's cry off on the day of a televised game might indicate that more thought may have to be given to the circumstances surrounding this particular unfortunate withdrawal.

Debate seems to be focused on who gets the points but what about the pies - and the pints? Who pays for them and what about the cost of returning ticket money and paying matchday staff etc. etc.? No doubt BT Sport will also still be paying its staff who had already rigged.

Matchdays generate revenue, which is why some cynics are pointing out that in most cases it's not the home team which calls a game off.

Regardless, Wuss's statement needs some discussion. They say: "When the side to face Gloucester was announced on Thursday we named the only four fit props in the club at that stage.

"The availability of Murray McCallum, who was named as replacement tight-head, was subject to him passing a fitness test on Friday morning. Unfortunately, Murray failed that fitness test."

So a problem was on the horizon. They knew their fourth prop had to have a fitness test on the day of the game. The Championship season ended last week - surely there are some still battle hardened props who could have been brought in to shore up Worcester's playing resources to get the game on?
