Gloucs Tripped Up

George Skivington admitted he was very angry after his side failed to beat a Newcastle Falcons side which was down to 14 men for an hour or so. There will undoubtedly be some beasting on the training ground when his charges return to work this week, but the sad fact is that the league season is now over courtesy of the 17-12 defeat.

The Cherry and Whites are now in eighth place, or third bottom to put it more accurately, with only three games to play.

Top four ambitions evaporated on the artificial surface at a showery Kingston Park where the home side gave a lesson in togetherness and never-say-die.

Gloucs gave the impression that they only had to turn up to win the game, and that mindset wasn't helped when Falcons went down to 14 with a 17th minute  red card for Richard Palframan- he was the second tackler and didn't manage to keep his shoulder out of the way.

Gloucs did have their moments, but not the determination to overcome a  well-organsied home defence - specially in the second half. The difference was encapsulated when Falcons winger Adam Radwan somehow chased down and got his hand to the ball,  as the otherwise impressive Ollie Thorley seemed certain to get on the end of a grubber.

For the record Seb Blake scored first for Gloucs with Radwan replying. Thorley again put his side ahead,   but a Brett Connon penalty and a try from the lively full-back Elliott Obatoyinbo clinched an unlikely home win.
