Bookies put massive odds on Cru victory at Stoop

The Stoop

The Celtic Crusaders travel to the Stoop on Saturday as massive outsiders as John Dixon’s men aim to pick up only their second Super League win. The bookmakers seem to think it’ll take a near-miraculous display from John Dixon’s men to oust London club this weekend.

On a relatively small Betfair market, the Crusaders are currently priced at 8/1; with a Harlequins win at an incredibly low 1/25. The odds are exactly the same on SkyBet - with the unlikely draw currently 28/1.

The fact that the Crusaders are considered such rank outsiders suggests that the club have slipped backwards somewhat since the historic win at Odsal three weeks ago.

After that 30-26 victory, the Crusaders camp were talking up hopes of a winning streak with ‘winnable' matches against Catalans, Wakefield and Quins on the horizon.

However, despite a brave second-half fightback, ‘Saders were well beaten by their French counterparts in Bridgend before Wakefield ran over a humiliating half century at the Brewery Field last weekend.

After the win at Odsal, three-quarter Anthony Blackwood was telling the press that it felt like his men had won the Grand Final. Two games later and Cru look to have hit their lowest ebb.

Harlequins RL currently sit fifth in the table and boast an impressive eight wins from their opening thirteen league encounters. They were comfortable winners in South Wales earlier in the season; but a bigger-than-usual away following will still be hopeful that Cru can claim their second win in rugby league's elite division.

Putting it in perspective, does anyone recall what odds were before the Bulls game?

8/1 springs to mind for a win at Bradford, but I may be wrong!

Bulls were not as low as 1/25, I recall.
Crusaders were 7/4 to beat Harlequins at home.

The Cru are even money with a 22 point handicap lead!
