35-yard run

It was a predictable afternoon for the Celtic Crusaders in Yorkshire as the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats cruised to a 46-12 victory. Tries from Mark Dalle Cort and Steven Tyrer gave the travelling Cru fans something to cheer, however, against a Wildcats side that finished the game with only twelve players on the field.

At the end of the week that saw Mike Turner and Dai Watkins make a number of surprise revelations about the club's future, the scene sat Wakefield's Belle Vue were all to familiar for fans of the Celtic Crusaders.

Salford's win at Harlequins on Saturday all-but sealed the wooden spoon for John Dixon's men - and that fate was confirmed with a poor performance against a dominant Wildcats side.

The hosts dominated from the early periods and racked up a twenty-two point half-time lead. Luke George and Sean Gleeson scored early tries, before scrum-half Danny Brough, who kicked seven conversions, scored a try and created another for James Stosic.

Things didn't look like getting any better for the Crusaders after the break as tries from Tevita Leo-Latu and Jason Demetriou extended Wakefield's lead. The Cats looked capable of beating the 50-0 victory they secured at the Brewery Field earlier in the season - before a superb solo run from Dalle Cort reduced the arrears with Matty Smith booting over the extras.

Any hopes of a miracle fightback were soon dashed. Leo-Latu soon secured his brace, with George also grabbing a second try as the clock ran down.

Most of the headlines, however, have been taken by incidents in the closing stages of the game. Man of the match Brough, earlier sin-binned along with Tyrer, was dismissed for verbally abusing the referee. James Child correctly stood by the game's "no tolerance" policy and the scrum-half was sent for an early shower.

The Saders grabbed another try at the death with Tyrer scoring and Smith bagging the kick - but it was too little, too late.

Shame about the result, but the team showed what they are capable of in patches. Hopefully the club casn build on the steep learning curve they've endured this season.
