The record crowd of nearly 900 was the highlight, but on the pitch it was more disappointment for the South Wales Scorpions as they slipped to a narrow 16-12 defeat at the hands of Swinton. Anthony Seibold will take consolidation from a bonus point - but this result does little to boost the club's play-off hopes.

After a three week wait, the Scorpions returned to action and a record rugby league crowd was at the Gnoll to welcome them.

However, a largely unattractive contest was narrowly won by visitors Swinton as the Scorpions' play-off ambitions took a blow.

Swinton winger Rob Foxen bagged a crucial try on 74 minutes as the Lions boost their own hopes of a promotion push.

Steve Parry ran over in the first-half for the hosts, while Aled James scored after the interval but - despite two successful kicks from Loz Wildbore - the Scorpions miss out narrowly yet again.

The club management will be hoping that the result will not stop the fans turning out again for next weekend's Father's Day fixture against the Rochdale Hornets.
