The first competitive game of the season is almost upon us, a Northern Rail Cup tie against Oldham Roughyeds this Sunday at The Gnoll in Neath (kick-off 3pm).

South Wales Scorpions' record points scorer Lewis Reece says that the players can't wait to get going with their competitive season.

The Welsh international and his team-mates will at last play their first Northern Rail Cup tie this Sunday with a home match against Oldham Roughyeds at The Gnoll in Neath (kick-off 3pm).

"All the boys were up for it last week so it was disappointing to have the match postponed," Reece said. "But this week now should be good. All the boys are ready and we can't wait to get going in the Northern Rail Cup.

"It's a difficult start for us this Sunday. We know that Oldham are a tough physical team who always cause us a lot of problems. It should be an exciting game and hopefully we'll come out on top.

"We're hoping for a big crowd to start off with and that's essential for us. When you've got a full ground cheering you on, there's nothing better. It gives us an extra edge to keep going and keep working hard."

Normal admission prices to the South Wales Scorpions v Oldham Roughyeds this Sunday are £12 for adults, £7 concessions, £3 for children aged 12 and above, or free for children aged 11 and under.
