Falcons went down 24-10 to the Borders but Rob Andrew isn't worried. Instead, he's quoted as saying that if the team had wanted to win they would have kicked umpteen penalties instead of tapping them and stretching their legs.

According to Alan Hedley in The Journal he was also quick to point out that the squad had trained on the morning, and the game was only ever intended as part of a full training week.

Apparently he was delighted with the scrummaging and line out, but the boys were a bit ring rusty when it came to tackling and ball retention.

Borders went into a 10-0 lead in the first few minutes. Then Falcons got a grip but only had a Stephenson try to show for it. He went over after picking up a kick from Walder. Brotherstone had been sin-binned for throwing a right hook.

Hugh Vyvyan was captain on the night in the absence of Jonny [so presumably Hugh is vice-captain] and he got a try early in the second half - again from a good bit of work from Walder.

But that was the end of the Falcons scoring with Walker getting a couple of tries.
