The more awake of you this morning will notice a change to the site that’s going to stay in place all this week. Gone are the normal colours, to be replaced by something a little more flesh-toned.

Yup, the site’s gone pink.

 

In anticipation of Friday night’s EDF Energy Cup crucial* game at home to Llanelli Scarlets, www.falconsrugby.org.uk will be pink this week in support for the Falcons’ efforts in raising money for Cancer Research UK’s All Join Together campaign, which is targeted towards research into breast cancer.

 

As the team will be wearing the special pink shirts (available from the official site www.newcastle-falcons.co.uk), we’re going to try and help them along the way.  We’re asking people to sponsor Falcons for every point the team score on Friday night.  We’ve called it Pound A Point (we like alliteration) but we realise that not everyone can afford a pound, especially if Falcons (as we hope) score a hatful.  We also realise that people may wish to contribute more, so that’s ok too.  We’re only asking for pledges at the moment, we’ll get up a sponsorship page on Friday night once we know how many points we’re dealing with.  And what’s more, you don’t have to be a Falcons supporter to help – we’ll take money off anyone in the name of a good cause.

Why does it mean so much to us?  Well, one in nine women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives (not forgetting the several hundred men who are diagnosed with it each year as well); or, put another way, it’s likely one of my female friends who support Falcons will go through the anguish that my wife’s been through, and is coming out the other side of – and I love them all too much to see them suffer without thinking that I could do something to help.

 

The All Join Together campaign aims to make all women aware of their risk of breast cancer and to raise funds to fight the disease, which is now the most common cancer in the UK.  Please help us this week.

 

 

 

 

*It’s crucial because we really mustn’t have any more injuries…
