Changed the Game

To be honest I was fearful of a demoralising defeat. All of the omens were there ... Tykes unbeateen .... Falcons floundering ... but Jonny found his inspiration again and we were worth the win. Our season is back on track and Big Brother isn't a bad player either.

To be honest the first half wasn't up to much and Leeds looked the more likely even though they gave away three penalties but got away with it as Jonny missd two of them. Then against the run of play Hall Charlton scored an excellent try nipping away from a ruck and sprinting home for the 22 to set up an easy conversion.

Tykes got back into it when fly half Ross put in a crossfield kick to send in Harder and Van Straaten made it 10-7 at half time.

We came out fired up but Van Straaten did get a penalty in the 45th minute, but we were rewarded when Grimesy scored in the 50th minute after being set up by Jonny Wilkinson and Jamie Noon. But that came only after a controversial drop goal attempt from Gordon Ross which looked suspiciously like it had gone over. Referee Pearson said not.

This was now a much better game and Tykes came straight back with a superb run from Diego Albanese who set up Dan Scarbrough.

There had been quite justified critricism of Jonny Wilkinson in recent weeks - is he ready yet for captaincy - but today he had the answers and the vision making everything happen around him. Perhaps he was motivated by the presence of big brother Matt at ouitside centre. He can be pleased with his debut and looks like being a regular.

Jonny added another penalty before setting up a Jamie Noon for another good try, which he also converted. Tykes got the bonus pount they deserved n the 82nd minute through a Van Straaten penalty.
