We have a comfortable home win against Leeds but ball retention is still an area of concern. At least this time we scored three tries but we should have scored more. An Ed’s Diary – 7th October 2003

London Irish 31 – 16 Leeds. In the end a comfortable scoreline, better than was predicted by the bookies, that said there is a general feeling that given how much we dominated the game the end result was poor. At least this time we scored three tries but we should have scored more. Many of us, not least the team, are disappointed by not having picked up a bonus point. Poor ball retention is still at the top of the agenda.

We’re now up to seventh in the ZP table. Not by any means wonderful but at least we are for now away from the relegation zone. Even at this early stage Rotherham appear to be doomed to end up bottom of the table, relegation is another story. They have played four and lost four. Not even picking up a bonus point along the way. There has been an interesting debate on the board, sparked by Reading_Fatboy, along the lines of how could we let Bristol go to the wall, etc, etc. The promotion/relegation debate has already raged for years, no doubt it will continue to do so.

Digger, the naughty dog that he is, managed to break his bodhran last weekend. He has come onto the site asking for another one. Within an hour he had a few offers. In the end Mollie (Mallahaid) is giving him hers together with a card and arrangements are being made for a pitch side presentation. Somehow this gives me a warm feeling, difficult to put a finger exactly on why, perhaps it is just that I see the community that is London Irish at work.

We’ve been drawn away against Glaws in the sixth round of the Powergen cup. I can’t help feeling that ours will be a very short run this season. Hope I’m wrong.
