The battle of the promoted sides saw the Amateurs first match of the season at Broom Road. Within minutes the Quins were ahead as Rick Braithwaite scored in the corner following Nick Marren’s break in the centres. Soon Old Streetonians were punished in front of their posts and the Amateurs took an 8 point lead.
Harlequins were easily in control, butStreetonians pulled 3 points back with a penalty and began to show confidence.The match swung across the halfway line with neither team able to capitalise ontheir possession as both teams showed a strong defence.
Streetonians scored a try under theposts following a clever chip over the Quins back line and held a narrow 2point lead heading into the final quarter. The home side threw everything atthe try line but failed to cross over, allowing Streetonians to clear theirlines again and again. The final minutes saw a rare Streetonians attack, endingwith a drop goal and a 5 point victory.
