Preview: Quins v Saracens

We’re on our way to Wembley!! Round 20 of the Guinness premiership sees Harlequins travel up the North Circular Road to meet Saracens at the home of English Football Wembley Stadium. Kick off, courtesy of Sky Sports is at 17.30 on Saturday April 17th.
With thecontinuing marketing malaise creeping across Rugby Union in England like anunseen cloud of volcanic ash, this will be the fourth jamboree this year that Saracens have stagedwith “give away ticket prices” in an effort to increase their spectator base.Something that would have not been possible if they tried to implement atVicarage Road. The main talk this week has been the state of the pitch atWembley with news that it is unfit for purpose, and that it has been replacedten times in the past three years.
Saracensare having one of their better seasons, topping the table midterm they havesince slipped back down the table lying in third place but they are stillexpected to qualify for Heineken cup action next year. With the news thatStrettle is hanging up his quartered shirt to join the Men in Black , it willbe interesting to see whether he plays and if so how he performs against hisnew club, as Safacens continue to recruit and buy success next year.
Harlequinswill still be buoyed up after last week’s demolition of Leeds at The Stoop andwill be looking for an upset against our North London Neighbours. Their 46-11 bonus point win saw Quinsmove up to seventh place in the Table. Tickets have been selling well for thiswith a couple of thousand Harlequins supporters making the away trip, includingtwo Quinssa coaches. With just three games to do Quins will still be pushing toImprove their final position, and put in a good performance ahead of a trickyaway trip to Leicester next weekend. The win ensures Premiership survival lastweek and Quins are essentially in a three way battle with Bath and Gloucesterfor the coveted sixth place in the final table.
Saturdayshould be an interesting spectacle. Essentially a home match for Saracens, butfollowing another dry week we should be in for a feast of running rugby. With anod to an old “Coleman ball” from the 1970 s David Strettle was quoted afterlast week’s win “Our backs love beautiful days like this because it means whenwe get opportunities we can open our legs a bit and show why we’re professionalrugby players.” Strettle went on to infer that he thought it a shame that rugbywas a winter sport.
Harlequinshave a good opportunity to play well and force a win tomorrow. Recent tinkering with the laws hassuddenly opened up the game and high scores have been recorded in recent weeks itshould be an interesting game. Bring it on Quins by5.
