Coventry Rugby have reacted quickly to fill the loss of tighthead prop Bronson Ross to Ulster, by signing  the vastly experienced Tim Ryan from Rabo Direct Welsh Regional side Gwent Dragons, where he will join up with a few  former  Dragon players including Coventry Rugby’s Head Coach Scott Morgan.

Tim Ryan, aged 29 was born in Cork, Ireland, became a member of the Irish U 19 side and soon attracted senior clubs, becoming part of the Munster Academy, and then the Munster senior squad from 2007, where he had the honour of being in the team that almost beat the All Blacks in 2008.

Tim then had a season playing for Toulon in 2009/10, where he became an important part of the side that reached the final of the Amlin Challenge Cup, followed by a season at Premiership side Newcastle Falcons. In 2011/12 he played for Italian side Cavalieri Prato, returning from abroad in 2012 when his joined Gwent Dragons. A season somewhat restricted at Dragons followed  playing only 8 games in total, including a Heineken Cup game although his performance against Edinburgh later on in the season proved what a powerful and strong player he is .

Tim at 6ft 2ins and 130kg provides the power required and will give the input and experience Coventry Rugby require to assist the development of the younger prop forwards the team have or are in the process of recruiting.

Questions?
1. How come he only made 8 appearances for the Dragons last season.
2. Left Newcastle for Italy after 1 season - why?
3. What level did he play at in Italy?
4. If good enough why would Munster release him when Hayes and Horan were nearing the end of their careers?
5 Is he fit enough to play a full season?
6. Can he replace the dynamism that Bronson Ross gave us last year.

Tom's press release paints a great picture - but I have concerns.

Answers can only come from the coaching staff - and Scott Morgan at that.

We can only make a judgment when the full squad is announced and we have a chance to see them play. I am tending to be hopeful, but was also like that at the start off last season, albeit didn't expect a top six.

It is always a risk you take when signing players. Will they settle in the team, will they perform like people know they can etc etc, just look at Adam Parkin when he went to Moseley the first time it just did not work for him and yet we loved him at Cov.

The best thing for him is a Welsh coach and some team members he knows well.

If he is fit enough he is good enough.

I would welcome Adam Parkin back at Cov with open arms and I think Adam would want to come back.
Does anyone know what his situation is this season ?.
I would also welcome Robbie Hurrell back as well

You can have all the prima donnas in the world,but they do not make a team. We are putting together players that know each other, and this can be priceless. Ateam that plays as one will always get my vote, looking forward to this season even more.
