Spy in the Camp Waterloo

 

Waterloo make a return visit to Brickfields in the EDF Energy National Trophy fixture this weekend.  Due to RFU regulations this is an "All Pay" fixture son make sure you have your tickets for the match, Season tickets holders and VPs need to pay for this meeting.

Waterloo, who sit at the bottom of National League One, would have been hoping for an easier fixture as they have only one 3 matches this season. Since we last met they have won one match and picked up another bonus point. Both of their two bonus points have been gained against London Welsh and their win was away to Moseley on the first match of the year.

Waterloo seem to be in the process of upgrading their website but since only the front page is available there is no extra information.

The last meeting was just 8 weeks ago when Allbion put on 40 points to 7.

Those you us that were there will remember their "large" prop who liked to pop up in the backs and had a far pace at his feet, not an easy person to stop at full pelt.

Albion matters

Dan Smith currently on loan from Bath and who has played three quarters of the last two matches will probably ruled out of this weekend's match as he has played in EDF Cup matches for Bath.

Wihan Neethling is approaching match fitness but is very unlikely to be available for the cup match but hopes to play against Devon rivals Exeter next weekend.

Keni Fisilau, having served the second week of his two week suspension will be available which may well push Arran Cruickshanks back to the bench and may move fellow countryman Sila Va'Enuku off the squad.

Mike Lewis has been moving back to fitness but will his knee be fit enough to give him a start or a place on the bench?

Bryn Jenkins, who has been on the bench twice recently, may have a better chance getting on the pitch this weekend with Dan Smith probably ruled out. His fellow Warriors team mate Ed King will also be waiting on the side lines for a chance to prove himself in the first team.

Brett Stroud played the other week in the second row and is a lot easier and lighter to lift at the lineouts than Colin Stewart will probably see some match time if not start in the second row. If he comes into the starting line-up again it might give an opening for Ben Rowntree, Warriors captain and experienced back row, to make the step up.

Colin Stewart, who it was thought was going to be out for the rest of the season now has an outside chance of playing again at the end of the season. He would be a real boost if he was match fit for the last game of the season against Leeds Tykes.

Ben Gulliver, who travelled to his old club Coventry last week, must have had mixed feelings as his father's team took the points away from Albion in the second half.  He is still some way off from being available but with 10 more league matches to go stands a good chance of getting back in the starting line-up.

Westcountry Warriors

Warriors have an afternoon match on Monday against Bristol United at 2:30pm and is likely to feature those players that do not get a full game on Saturday.

This is the first match for the Warriors since 20th November when they have not played on the same day as the first team and will give a good chance for 1st team bench players to get match time. 

Warriors matches are usually fast games and enjoyable to watch. Since it will be played during the working day it is not likely to be a crowded ground and the boys will be glad of all the support they get.

Last time Bristol United visited Brickfields they ended up winners 14 - 36. A try from Nat Saumi and 3 penalties were not enough to stop Bristol. The Warriors were hampered to some extent as several of their players played a full match for Devon U20 just 24 hours before.

Ladies

The ladies will spend this week regrouping from their trip to Clifton as they were beaten by top of the table side 62-0.  

They travel to London based Saracens on Sunday and will be looking for a positive result. They should be back to full strength after a number of unavailable last week although they will be waiting until the last minute to see if Kim Davey is fit to play after she attends the England Colleges training weekend. She will be making her own way to the match from the camp and if fit will be available to the squad. 

62 points is a lot to have put over a team particularly with no response but the team have been working hard on various puts of the game and expect to come away with a win.

The ladies only have two more more matches to play at home this season and if you haven't seen them play then it is well worth it. Put Sunday February 18th in your diary when Old Albanian Saints travel to brickfields it should be an exciting match why not come along and encourage the "girls" (2pm K.O.).
