2012-13 RFU Championship fixtures
For immediate release Wednesday 6th June 2012
Issued on behalf of Nicol McClelland

Note to editors: The 2012-13 structure is subject to the outcome of any appeal by London Welsh.

The 2012-13 RFU Championship fixtures have been confirmed, with newcomers Jersey set to face 2011-12 runners up Cornish Pirates in the opening round.

Following their promotion from SSE National League One, Jersey will host Pirates at St Peter, with the visitors making a short trip across the English Channel for the start of their new season campaign. Ian Davies' men will then welcome Plymouth Albion to The Mennaye the following week in a classic West Country derby.

Having survived their debut season in the RFU Championship, London Scottish will host Rotherham Titans in a repeat of their 2011-12 opening fixture, which saw the hosts narrowly beat the Yorkshire men 16-11.

New for the 2012-13 season, a revision to the current structure will see the 12 clubs compete in a league across 22 rounds, with the bottom club relegated to SSE National League 1 and the top four clubs going on to compete in a two-legged semi-final and final. The winners of the semi-finals will go on to play in the RFU Championship final – also two legs.

The new structure provides 11 home games for the Championship clubs and a minimum of six games in the revised British & Irish Cup, which will now include financial rewards for RFU Championship clubs who reach the knock-out stages.

Is that "definate", Frank, as against "provisional" [subject to the L.W. thing] ?

No early bird discounts and provisional fixtures at the moment. Check on the Official site for when the list is confirmed. (Don't hold your breath, either...)

Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!

Think the club has shot it`s self in the foot with the "Pirats" fixture being on Boxing Day. No (r) No public transport . A lot of my Cornish work coleagues and neighbours, just won`t be able to get there . Plus the "family gathering" time of year,(they may be able to escape for a few hours , but not most of the day !!!! ) and that`s without the traditional local Boxing Day fixtures as well !!!
I fear the gate will suffer .Saturday 22nd would probably have been a bumper crowd , all that shopping stuff for the ladies , and the players would have been able to relax on Christmas day
Hey Ho , just me ruminating
ROLL ON THE NEW SEASON (don`t like these dark empty summer months !!!)confused smiley

"Food for thought" , my drift wasn`t about the archives , more a missed chance to top up the club`s purse ( and for the shop to sell those last minute Christmas presents !!! ) (Sm25)

A big regret for me is no trip this year again to the Brickfields. How is my little patch of the pitch doing. Rock on Albion here is wishing you a good season.

Hey, mick, thanx for that and all the very best to your lot too. Be assured, your patch of the Brickfields turf is well watered.
