North Terrace

This photo of the banking at the North end, mentioned last week as having been built largley by the then current squad managed by Dawsey and the scoreboard at the time being in it's new home at the top of the banking.I don't have many notes of this particular close season so if anybody has anything at all to add, in fact at anytime, please feel free to add to whatever is written as it will be of interest to our fellow supporters.

Two things in particular changed the face of the Brickfields stadium that close season period, namely the adjustment of the playing area in a Westerly direction and a small tempory covered stand to compensate for the loss of the earlier tempory covered stand alongside the athletics track to the East.

Although we didn't know it at the time (Dawsey wasn't a good communicater, and nor was the board) the pitch was being moved of course to facilitate the Redrow stand, as it was at that time, which was being built the following summer, just missing the opening game pre season unfortunately after a big build up, but still a major boost to the club.

Here is the substitute tempory stand looking from the clubhouse end.

Here the fencing is being moved some two meters towards the new Eric Johns stand.

A view in the opposite direction,it looks as if the tarmac path alongside the Eric Johns was laid at that time as well.

On this stretch the middle section of this walkway is in concrete, you can see the different colour, and is slightly higher than the tarmac sections on both sides, I'd like to know why, perhaps a question of drainage ?

Just checking the third part of the series the photo's of the Eric Johns stand show a perfectly flat frontage all the way along so this rasied part in a bit strange.

From this photo taken from the clubhouse end, you can see that the playing area has been moved about perhaps six meters to the West, giving of course enough room for the intended new stand.

A view this time from the North terrace showing once again the large amount of ground gained by this move for the new stand.

Here a new subbase is being laid ready for the next stage.  If you can make him out, Dawsey can be seen on the right standing in the fenced off area by the red signs on the boundary fence, all in all he put so much time into Brickfields during his time here for which as the club have said we all owe him such a lot.

Next time in part 5. we will be seeing photo's of the construction of the East stand, a fascinating part of the old Brickfields area that included some of the Raglan barracks property in the 1800's

I vaguely recall the raised area in front of the stand was to allow further disabled viewing areas.

would like to see the Raglan barracks bit. I remember reading about the archaeologists called in to excavate it before it was buried again
