Following strong victories over Cheshunt in the league and a Reading club side in a friendly fixture, the Ams went into this Herts Middlesex 1 fixture aiming for another win – but it was not to be. West London played some strong rugby early aided by a heavy wind to their backs.
Quins were unable to holdthe back-line attacks and missed too many tackles by hitting up high. In thefirst half the Quins leaked four tries, and were unable to muster more than aRick Braithwaite penalty in response.
Second half the wind wasin the home side’s favour and it showed early on. Rick Braithwaite scored a tryin the corner to provide consolation at an early stage. From then on thepenalty count hit heavily, and the final score in penalties (21-4) made betterreading than the actual score, with West London running out 37 – 8 victors.
