Harlequins travelled the short distance across Teddington to Bushy Park for this eagerly awaited RFU Junior Vase third round tie. During pre-season Teddington defeated Quins in a friendly, however the Ams were renewed following a league victory the previous week.
Early on Quins held the upper hand, with Mike McGowan’skicking from fly-half pinning the home side deep into their half. Quickly theAms were in front, as Teddington were penalised in front of their posts foroff-side – Rick Braithwaite converted for three points.
The first half saw continual possession for Harlequins, whowere denied a late try through tough tackling by Teddington – inches separatingDave Salomon from the try line in the final minute of the half.
Second half, Quins started brightly, however were peggedlevel following a careless infringement on their 22. At 3-3 the game was tense,until Teddington crossed over in the corner, taking a 5 point lead. Ams werecertain the winger was out of play, the touch-judge was unsure, but the refereeawarded the score.
In the final moments as Quins chased the game, Teddingtonscored simply under the posts following a turnover. Teddington progress in thecup and Quins attention must return to the league at Broom Road on Saturday.
