Both of the speedsters in the England 7s squad for Wellington have been pulled out Richard Houghton has been recalled because of injuries in the Saracens squad and our own Ugo Monye has been forced to withdraw because of a niggling ankle injury. This has meant that Joe Lydon has been forced to call up some replacements. Nnamdi Obi, the Henley wing and the Orrell centre Rodd Penney have been called up as has Kai Horstmann.

Horstmann first hit the headlines with two man of the match performances against the Spanish side Centransa UEMC. The away leg of this first round of the Parker Pen European competition was Horstmann's first start for the first team, hence the nickname 'Debbie' (as in debutante).

Horstmann's first appearance for Quins was in the pre-season match against Glasgow last season, his first appearance in the Zurich Premiership was as a replacement for Andre Vos in that terrible game away to Northampton in 2002.

He has also played in the last two matches against Natal Sharks and has performed very well in both.

Horstmann has scored six tries so far this season, two for the first team and four fot the seconds.

He is one of the young Quins that are pressing hard for regular first team places.

The future's bright, the future's multicoloured!

Haughton and Monye are expected to be available for the Los Angeles leg in mid-February.
