Early Season Fixtures out

What's a Championship Club like you doing in a Premiership Rugby Cup like this?

Bath will play three Championship Clubs, along with Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints in a new look Premiership Rugby Cup, running concurrently with the Rugby World Cup in France. Alongside a trip to Penzance to play the Cornish Pirates, Bath will host the Championship-winning Jersey Reds (Matt Banahan sightings and references expected to reach dangerous levels) and London Scottish. Bath will also travel to Northampton to play the Saints and host Exeter.

This competition has desparately needed a refresh, and hopefully the injection of the Championship Clubs will create a compelling spectacle and a meaningful cup.

It will be a welcome change to have Championship teams involved.

Hopefully games will be competitive, with Premiership clubs playing squad/ development selections.

Bath should remember that Pirates can be a banana skin- they did for Sarries in the opening Championship fixture 2 seasons ago.

For those of that persuasion these games have been entered in the prediction league for 2023/24

Premiership fixtures out. Look OK to me.

1st round home to Newcastle and then we play Sarries and Tigers whilst their internationals are at the RWC (assuming England progress).

Looks good to me.

Can't remember the last time we had a home game first up (mainly due to the putting up of the East Stand) so I'm hoping that home advantage allows us to get off to a good start. Also looks like we're not going to be as depleted by the WC as we might have feared, so we should be strong versus Sarries and Tigers, who should be weaker than usual.

Obano Dunn Jonker Roux Ewels Hill Underhill Reid/Barbeary
Spencer Bailey Gallagher Ojomoh Butt Muir TdG
Annett Schoeman Verden FLW Reid/Coetzee Schreuder Francis Harris

A very powerful XXIII. Only weak point I can see is 13, but hopefully one of Wright, Butt or Hennessy rips it up in pre-season OR you could shuffle Mojo out and play Francis.

Really good set of fixtures to start.

Getting Saracens/Saints/Tigers out the way when they are going to be depleted is a big bonus. No reason why can’t win every one of those games.

Newcastle as the start is good to build some momentum.

Depending on how much rest they get... could have Finn, Cam (and Bayliss, McC if selected) back for Sarries away. Last pool match is 8th Oct.

Blimey - 9 home games is thin fare for a 'league' ... there are some over-bloated 'cups' in round ball that have virtually as many.

Funny how some of the commentary is around how good it will be to have Internationals available - although, it's only %age of games they are available for that has risen - not the actual number.

One thing that list does highlight to me is the (lack) of time that the Rec is going to be used with so few prem teams. I know that an ECC home game will be around mid Jan but with the little cup brought forward there is a huge gap between R11 home game vs Glos on 7th Jan and R13 home vs Sale on 23rd March. Opportunity for another BaaBaas or other similar friendly to get some gate receipts in?

Matt

Season Ticket holders received an email yesterday from the CEO which among other things, stated:

"We will be looking to arrange an additional fixture which, as a Full or Season Ticket Lite Holder, is included as part of your season ticket."

As mentioned, great to start with a home fixture, Sarries away, could be winnable, C'mon Bath!

I did too, until they admitted to shamelessly stealing the idea from another team, then it was a little less good.

Is that correct we play Bristol at Ashton Gate on Friday 26 Jan at 15:00 hrs? Is there a holiday that day?

Where did you get that info CC? On the prem site isn't not allocated to a day / time yet.

None of those times are confirmed. They generally firm up dates in blocks of 5/6 games, right?

Well, we all mostly asked for a cessation of games during the internationals, but that translates as a 10 week hiatus between home matches (Racing 14 Jan and Sale 23 March). It's going to feel like two mini seasons...

My 9 match ST Lite includes 3 x Prem Cup games, 3 x Prem games and 2 x big cup games. Given this totals 8 matches I'm assuming the TBA fixture will also be included.

The Prem Cup includes Jersey, Scottish and Exeter. The Prem includes Falcons, Sharks and Sarries. I'm going to need a bigger ticket...

That must be the same for other clubs as well. Can you play friendlies against Prem clubs mid season or as BM suggests BaaBaas games?

Will the extra game present an opportunity to play a Southern Hemisphere based team as part of their season warm ups?

Definitely thin pickings for the second half of the season, home to Glaws on 7 January, next home game is Sale on 27 March. Have to hope we progress in all cups, after Christmas is often spread our but I'll forget how to find my way to the ground!! 😉

Having a proper break for the 6 Nations. Something we’ve been moaning about for years as Bath regularly gets pillaged by England et al.

Did anyone hear the rumour about Bristol playing us in Cardiff for their home game in a “The Clash” style game?
