One of my favourite subjects and something that makes The Rec the no 1 location, no Premiership club has anywhere near the number of pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants within a 1 mile radius of the ground plus a main line rail station and buses from all directions.
A correction, The Rising Sun in Grove Street is still closed I believe.
In addition to the many excellent pubs mentioned above these are a couple of my favourites pre match;
The Architect, under The Empire Hotel is comfortable, spacious, has a good menu, large number of ales and lagers, ideal spot for a pre match meal.
The Salamander, cosy little bar, good beer and pub food.
And post match:
The Star, as traditional as you can find, a CAMRA favourite
The Bell, enjoy the music, not too busy at match day times

I actually enjoy the entertainment and atmosphere of The Swift Half post match before heading to one of the pubs.

Eastern Eye Used to be very good, but changed hands a few years ago. It was one of my Bath favourites, but not been for years as have not heard good of it.

Bandook in Milsom place on the other hand - lovely take on Indian (S Asian etc) cuisine - with very friendly service. Not cheap "High St Curry house" prices, but not fine dining cost either. Well worth a visit & on a level with Eastern Eye in it's better days.

The Eastern Eye was where Matt Perry had his benefit year curry night 2006. There was an Ere table with GlenTheEd, BSJ (who was BFJ in those days), G&T, Gareth, Mikes and yours truly. Henry Guscott was also there.

I used to frequent when we lived in Bath, Bengal Brasserie on Milsom Street and lately been to the Mint Room on lower Bristol Rd. The latter is excellent for fine Indian dining!

The Griffin Inn, Monmouth St has been recently (6 months) bee n taken over and refurbed by a Season Ticket holder at the Rec. Decent Ale and food and discount on match days on production of a ST.
Eastern Eye used to be great now as the Great Eastern is rubbish. Bengal Brasserie decent but require a deposit in advance for groups.

Great input from everyone, thanks. I've liaised with Coochie Coo and the plan is to turn this info into a free downloadable E-book that would be available to both home supporters and visitors with a link from the game previews.

It would sit on your phone for reference to things people might find useful on match days. It will include a ground plan of the Rec and a link to the local weather forecast. I've added the above info already but will add any other suggestions or ideas as long as they are feasible. If you have an idea share it and let's try to make this the best guide possible.

The Royal Oak (next to Railway bridge) closed down at the end of last year.

Probably want to add Bath Brew House, James Street West though.

Don't forget the Bath Cider House (where Fez used to be in the Paragon).

Brew House does lots of interesting ales, the likes of which will be enjoyed by the beardy CAMRA types that frequent this board.

Fez was Hub and then Hush etc. It is a now a cider microbrewery, basically the cider equivalent of the Brew House, the likes of which will be enjoyed by the straw chewing agricultural types!

For me, the Eastern Eye was more for the decor than the curry itself. My favourites used to be Jamuna (overlooking the Abbey) followed by Raj Poot on Pultney Street, but the owner of both (and perhaps a couple of others) retired and closed them. I think Jamuna is now Temptation, but I’ve yet to be tempted and I can’t remember what has happened to Raj Poot. A more recent favourite is Mantra on the Paragon, especially for lunch when the sun is overhead on the terrace.

Travel to ground could be clearer though there is now a good link on the Offy which I'll include but could do with a bit of local knowledge.
I've looked on the first bus site and it basically says go to the bus station for the rec, its a short walk from there. Its not that obvious so I looked up the map which is included below what do the purple spots mean, bus stops but Ci, Cg, Se?

If its not clear to me is it clear to other visitors or am I missing something?

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve yet to try Bandook. Is Chai Walla on anyone’s list? Essentially a treet food from a building, very tasty and ideal for a match day takeaway. Other than the few I frequent, I’ve not been out much in Bath since moving away and I’m only in office once or twice during the week, so I can’t really add much more that is fully up to date.
