Last league games of the season at The Rec always seem to be sunny and full of Bath tries. Casting my mind back I recall Banner’s 100th try, Josh Bayliss’ 80th minute beauty against Northampton in 2021 and last year’s demolition of a young Saracens XV. Those last two games both secured Champions Cup rugby for Bath. This Saturday the stakes are higher.
The best possible scenario is second in the table and a home game in two weeks’ time. Worst case scenario is an unthinkable sixth.
I am sure every team and every fan, has their “if only’s” from the games played so far this season. The clock-in-the-red-sliding-doors moments that feel like they have a disproportionate impact on a campaign. I count no less than five from our seven defeats this year: Coetzee’s dropped kick off against Leicester, a Max Ojomoh knock on at Franklins Gardens, a dodgy scrum penalty up at Sale, a seven-minute sin bin at The Stoop and the umpteen knock-ons in the final phases at home to Sarries.
If one or two of those moments had gone our way, then we could have already qualified for a semi-final place and be in prime position for top two. None of them did and we are where we are, still strong favourites for a top four spot but also not guaranteed anything at all.
To secure what we want, we will need to be at our very best on Saturday.
The return fixture was way back in November and Week 4. We had just come off the back off that galling defeat at home to Leicester and were aiming to recapture the positivity that unexpectedly winning at Saracens has generated. Saints had lost their first two games and only narrowly squeezed past Newcastle the previous week.
Re-watching the highlights tonight, I was struck by three things. Firstly, Saints’ much vaunted back line was kept largely in check (their tries were all close range and owed much to soft Bath defence on the fringes). Secondly, that the game featured Thomas du Toit’s longest range try of the season from all of 5 yards out. Thirdly, we really should have won.
Saints have improved immensely since then, growing in confidence throughout the season, and the harder pitches of spring suits their free-flowing style. They will be motivated by finishing top of the regular season pile and a potentially easier semi-final opponent. With a free weekend before the play-offs, I do not expect too many changes for our visitors. Momentum is an important dynamic in sport, and they will not want to squander it.
Bath need a fast start and to get the Rec rocking. If we end up chasing the game then Dingwall, Sleightholme, Furbank et all might tear us to shreds.
That said Bath fans have much to be grateful for and hopeful about. After the horrors of the previous two seasons, pride in the jersey has been restored. To start our last league game competing for a potential home semi-final rather than just the chance to be the bottom seed in The Big Cup is a huge step forward in itself. To have pretty much the whole squad fit and available for selection is likewise. JVG and his team deserve much credit for both. We have no need to fear anyone, and no-one will relish playing us.
The equation for Bath is relatively simple: score four tries and we are in the semis. Score four and win and we have a shot at playing at home. Even an LBP would do.
Elsewhere we are supporting Bristol against Quins and Leicester against Exeter. A low scoring draw at the Stone X would be perfect too.
Quins can only overtake us if they take all 5 points, and we draw a blank – even then there would need to be a 77-point swing across the games for them to overtake us.
Exeter also need 5 points and Bath to score none to overtake us. The points difference is already in their favour, however.
In theory Sale could overtake us with a draw and a try bonus point if we get humped by more than 50. More likely, they need to win at Saracens and hope that we slip up.
All of which is to say, our destiny is in our own hands – let’s make sure we take it.
A final word for our leavers on Saturday, Josh McNally has been announced today and I expect others will follow before the weekend. Thank you to all of them for their commitment to the cause and we wish you well with whatever follows.

Agree with that that team - only a few changes I would make - and think I would start JDP over Roux / I would also Give Coetzee the start feel like this is a game that will really suit him. Probably been the best impact player in the league this season and imo we need him for the semis to be in good shape. / Finally have a sneaky suspicion we might see Grace involved - this game will really suit him.
TDG should be available for the Semi - hoping to be available back end of next week/week after
Saints fan here. Looking forward to the game on sat. I actually think saints will go quite strong which could make it interesting. My prediction is lawes, dingwall and davison will be left out. Langdon, mitchell, freeman and fin smith on the bench with all the rest being first choice. Maybe iyogun will start instead of waller . Bath 31 saints 28 . You lot are a great team and think will edge on the day. Bath to beat sarries in the semi. Saints to beat exeter. Then we beat you in the final . Happy days .
Great write up. Thanks to you - and the other contributors - for the previews this season. Better standard of journalism on 'ere than most of the national rags!
Hope Saints don't come fully loaded, but I almost think it'll bring out the best in us if they do. If it's another Falcons scenario in terms of match ups, I think we may struggle again.
The key for me is that Saints are player led whilst we are coaching led. I read an article with Freeman or Furbank which discussed how their players wanted more influence in how things are done and they have excelled since that change. England players had similar discussions with management mid 6N and we beat Ireland and pushed France close. Quins revolted against the Gustard regime playing some wonderful rugby before they hired one T Matson and things went backwards for a while. Sarries seem to be player (Farrell) led within their playing framework. We have a great talent pool and I just wish we were more heads up in the way we play. It will be an interesting clash of styles on Saturday.

Think TDT offers more bang off bench than Stuart + Schoeman allows TDT to come on TH where he is much more destructive - likewise Jacque DP. Jaco offers a difference and more ball carrying - Josh B gives so much and in case of emergencies can play on wing with his pace.
One thing for sure the squad won’t care what Saints team takes the field - they will be 100% focussed on their game and what they need to do.

Cheers for a very good preview. I only take issue with one point. Like the Spurs fans celebrating their loss in midweek, I certainly won't be willing a Briz win. It doesn't matter how good a season we have; losing to them in a final or seeing them win it would just be too much to bear!
Yeah I was trying to do all the permutations but I think it will take a lot to go wrong to not get a top 4 finish, obviously a home tie would be great but let’s just concentrate on winning and scoring as much as possible. My first home game this season due to various obstacles, what a cracker of a match we have in store. COYB!!!!

I think Ali has got the selection spot on.
Personally I would be fine with Rory McC instead of JC.
Good piece in the DT about Baths improvement under JVG. Interesting how much is stuff Griffiths had identified almost three seasons ago. I guess you needed to get rid of a layer of personnel and get the right man at the top for it all to click.
Too me it feels very much like the Borthwick rebuild at Tigers in that it needed the right person at the right time.
No doubt he's doing a great job though as reflected in his contract extension.
A few Saints on holiday apparently so sounds like some rotation.
"They will be motivated by finishing top of the regular season pile and a potentially easier semi-final opponent. With a free weekend before the play-offs, I do not expect too many changes for our visitors."
More interested in their team selection this week! We should really be looking to win this. Once again, it's a situation where - if the 23 we have on the park can't win this game, then we don't really deserve to think of ourselves as title contenders.

I thought Saints would rotate but I never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be that much. The chance of a BP win and a home semi-final is now possible.
Yep, a big bag of Pick n Mix from Saints, with big players (Ludlum, Odendaal) back from injury, but the majority of their "A" team on a break. Seems a bit odd given there is another rest week next week. Think only a couple of this XV started against Leinster. Still a good side, but we've been dealt a kind hand. The fact they're sending a team of highly motivated squad men almost makes me more nervous!
Nice to see Bayliss start. Think he's earned it and hopefully shows we're going to play wide and with pace. Barbeary to cause a bit of havoc late on and wrap up the BP!
An 80-minute performance must be the aim, and then see where that leaves us. It's time to stop turning in bits and pieces of nice looking rugby, or decent 20 minutes-es, and put a marker down, with solid set piece, defence, and consistent attack. Sarries did it last week. Our turn tomorrow.
Whilst I fully agree we can't afford to be complacent. That's a very decent Saints 23 despite the rotations. However, I hope that doesn't translate into "We've got to keep it tight"
A narrow mindset and we could lose narrowly. I'm not saying go fully unleashed from KO but a TRP must be the easiest way to secure a semi and that will give us a better chance of the win to go with it
Strange from Saints - effectively just accepting that they will play us next round. The difference between1st and 2nd is massive this year quality of opposition wise. Not only that but saints are going to go into that game having lost their last game against us.
I think we have the massive upper hand if we play this right. This screams of 2022 Saints undercooking their players into the semi and looking rusty.
Shame no Coetzee or Max probably the last we have seen of them. Both deserved a shot this game imo but a great team none the less.
dr.bath1865 The fact they're sending a team of highly motivated squad men almost makes me more nervous!
Yes, will the team get complacent?

We are at the pointed end of the season now, it may have come earlier than expected but I agree completely, we need to become ruthless.

Clarkey3k We'll finish 3rd and play Sarries away imho...
Sarries could lose to Sale for sure but I think right now given the team Saints have picked I think we're looking at; Sarries, Saints, Bath, not a scooby.
Tbh bit disappointed that Saints have rotated so much but we've done it and it makes sense. Given there's a reasonable chance your two sides meet again they play you with a weakened side and any result or points they get are a bonus.
Still looking forward to the game and Bath side looks very strong.
Pretty much Opti although I think even that Saints team might pick up a TBP especially if Bath play an open game.
In some ways the battle for 4th is the most exciting.
If I weren't at the game think I'd be watching Quins v Bristol. Really hope Bristol can undo the Bristanbull mind block.
Tigers team looks really strong as does Chiefs but whereas Chiefs look in a good place Tigers just look lost. On that basis I think Chiefs maybe squeeze in 4th?
gaz59 Whilst I fully agree we can't afford to be complacent. That's a very decent Saints 23 despite the rotations.
Exactly gaz- my main reason for the sentiment!
PG
Would rather have seen a fully loaded Saints team, having lost earlier in the season to Tigers 2nd/3rds I'm quite nervous about the game now. Won't stop us getting in the top 4 though.
Whilst we have rested alot this is a very decent saints side. I fully expect a bath win on paper but think saints will at least get 1 bonus point. Points to note no first rate goal kicker and very inexperienced backs replacements. This side might of only beat gloucester 30 - 0. Most likely outcome now is a saints bath semi
Afternoon all. I agree with much of the sentiment on here, expecting a loss and likelihood that we will finish second and play you. That being said, the result itself in that context is irrelevant as we are resting 14 first team starters. I would say we are more confident with a second team than usual; a few of those guys would push for first team spots and the centres in particular have had good exposure. Sleights doesn’t need much of a chance to score either. I think the big positive for you is Hutch playing 10. Not only has he rarely started there, but he is back from months out straight into the slot. Doesn’t say much for Savala who we’ve just made a perm signing as back up 10. Either way, I’m expecting an open and interesting game and would welcome Bath to Gardens if it happens.
One thing which has changed under JvG is you can guarantee there will be absolutely no complacency.
The team will go out and play the way they would if they were facing Saints normal starting XV. There are plenty of players in that Saints line up that will hurt you if you let them play.
Interesting to see Alfie on bench to bring serious ouch off the bench and a serious front row replacement.
Really good to see Stookey in what might be his final game - let us all bring the noise - Come on Bath.
Glad to see Elliott in the squad, could he be staying? The importance of the game means no Josh McNally send off, although it'll be good if he and the other departing players are around for the walkabout after the game.
An interesting selection from Dowse which considering the extra game we had in Dublin understandable. I wouldn’t underestimate this team - a good chunk of them will be playing to get a place in the 23 for the remainder of the season so a pretty strong motivator to go out and perform
Interesting regarding rotation, especially this Saints selection coming a week after Glos got panned for sending their reserves to FG. Guess it shows that rotation isn't the problem – there is no lack of 'integrity' in resting key players and using your squad, but it's the nature of the performance your squad produces that's the measure.
I know there is a disparity in squad depths, and the resources clubs have to spend etc., but no 2nd/3rd string should be losing 90-0. This Saints XXIII starts as underdogs but with a good chance of upsetting the odds, which is how it should be in a competitive, congested league. No lack of integrity. Just a well-coached squad who have had a very busy run of games but have built depth in all the key positions. As mentioned, interested to see how Hutch does at 10 opposite Finn.
I'd love to watch Lawes, Smith and Freeman etc, but glad we're not, and also will be fascinated to see what these Saints bring. Nice chance for Underhill and Lawrence to get on the front foot and put in big performances, as for two of our best players, I think they've been a tad quiet of late.
gaz59 Corresponding fixture last year, Sarries sent a very young, inexperienced side and were 21 - 24 up at half-time

If we are the real deal - which I strongly believe
Then we should be putting this side away. No disrespect as there are some good players but as a side it’s well below standard. And disrespectful to send that to the Rec.
Whilst a big scoreline isn’t what I expect I hope to see saints put out the fight fairly early into the second half. If we are really honest that saints team shouldn’t have a chance with Hutchinson at 10. We struggled at scrum time last time round I hope now the scrum is more settled we should see some nice success there.

For starters I'd wait until we've played them before saying it's disrespectful. Regardless of the result the Saints coaches need to look at the bigger picture. I guess the Leinster game was pretty draining at the end of a long season. They've earned the right to pick who they want having already secured a home semi. I also don't see the argument that they'd be better off playing whoever comes 4th. Of the chasing pack, ourselves included, I imagine the one side they'd be keenest to avoid is Briz.

Bath Supporter Jack Would that be on a defensive basis Kidney?
Quite honestly both Jack. I see him as a better, more consistent winger, and certainly better under the high ball.
Wouldn't necessarily disagree as love rmc and as you say definitely more solid under the high ball.
Interestingly in attack big Joe has much better stats this season than muir re metres made, defenders beaten, average carry etc.
Key is getting him on the ball in the first place. Think he came out about 4th of the prem wings with muir in 9th.
Muir is awesome but not been a stellar season for him.
My impression, though I don't think anyone has stats on this is that he drops the ball a lot, from catches and passes, however, there is a definite change in his drive forward when in possession, greatly improved.
Muir just hasn't been given any decent ball.

hantssabre Anybody watching on PRTV and if so is the feed as bad?
I am from Lanzarote on my smartphone, just the occasional glitch but nothing to worry about. Good value for £6. Ridley reffed us out of the last 10mins of the half though. Underhill's turnover was excellent but pinged, a bad call by CR. We should put these guys away in 2nd half if we're anything like challengers tbh

Sam Underhill grilling Ridley as they walked off - not surprised we do seem to be on his naughty side - some very dubious penalties - couldn’t see a lot wrong with a couple of the jackels he penalised.
As it stands it’s Saints v Sale and Bath v Sarries.
If Sale extend their lead the away teams would swap, if Sarries go ahead we’d be going to the StoneX and winner of Quins v Bristol (currently Bris but I presume there’s plenty more tries to come in that one) goes to Franklin’s Gardens.
Looking like Exeter are out of the equation.
Edit: Sale did extend their lead as I was typing so currently Saints v Sarries and Bath v Sale, which I reckon would be our first choice of semi

gaz59 Got my final tickets some time ago. Please god not Sarries v Sale

Tbh Sale had to do very little to beat us today. It felt an awful lot like your performance against Falcons (only you won ofc!) in that players just didn't seem on it and maybe a bit "checked-out"?
I'd be surprised if you don't beat them playing at the Rec. Their scrum gave them a great platform against us. I doubt they'll have the same v you.
dcsh I’ve got my play off ticket, does anyone know if season ticket holders get priority access to final tickets should be get there? I’ve only had my current season ticket since 2015/16 so haven’t had the opportunity to find out before!!!
Id imagine yes - generally ST an members get priority
Number held back back isn't clear, but found something on Leicester's site a couple of seasons ago which said their ST holders could buy SIX final tickets, which would suggest a chunky allocation (assuming nothing has changed)
Thanks, just found the same article myself. Hopefully that is the case and we have the opportunity to find out :-)
NGSB Bath did a good professional job today - no complaints at that result.
Just for reference, I think this line up would have given you a slightly closer game !
Waller
Langdon
Davison
Coles
Moon
Lawes
Ludlam
Augustus
Mitchell
Smith
Sleightholme
Dingwall
Freeman
Hendy
Furbank.
Sigh. Think we are all knowledgeable enough on here to know that was a second string saints team without it being spelt out again.
Good luck in the semi's - fingers crossed you win (sorry OM!).
Hope to see you in the final and think we would seriously have our work cut out to contain you- deservedly finish top of the log, played some cracking stuff this season!
Not seen the Sarries Sale game but wouldn’t e
Underestimate Sale. How ever yes would rather play Sale than Saints or Sarries.
Enjoyed the game today watching on my phone in my courtyard in France
Allez Bath 🇪🇪
After a catastrophic loss of telecoms at 4.30 this morning (about which I was absolutely ****** seething), I've just been able to finish watching the game.
TBH what the result was going to be today was clear after that first 30 minutes, so I wasn't worried. It was a Saints second team, all good players but not the team that's been putting other sides to the sword, so there's that to remember, but that was a very good performance by the BBW. And it was a complete performance which bodes well.
On any other day, my man of the match would have been Horse (just for the sheer joy of watching him play) or Josh (for being the rangy, fast, elusive and, above all, intelligent No8 that Zach Mercer aspires to be) but that game was firmly won by the pack and by the front row in particular.
My MotM - Beno. Just immense in the scrum, huge in defence and some really rather lovely passes in attack.
So, its Sale in the semi. If I'd have had my choice between Salaries and Sale, I'd have gone Sale every time, especially at home. That is going to be a totally different beast. However, if you haven't watched that game, Salaries wheels fell off and Sale made sure they stayed that way. I'd back our wheels to stay on in which case Finn v Ford and the battle of the backrows is going to be absolutely mouthwatering.
My prediction for the final is us v the Saints' first team. It'll be a cracker and we'll have to play much better than we had to today to win.
... IMHO, of course.

Great atmosphere at the Rec yesterday, decent performance from Saints 2nd team as well.
Great to see some good handling skills from Bath, only disappointing thing was the penalty count. That could have been down to an apparently inconsistent performance by the ref. He also allowed the 9’s far too much time at rucks.
All around the ground was entertaining so well done to the club for putting on a good show.
Last home game of the regular season.....the sun always shines and Bath always win.....and I drink too much Thatchers (Is it possible to drink too much, Ed?)
HK890 If we are the real deal - which I strongly believe
Then we should be putting this side away. No disrespect as there are some good players but as a side it’s well below standard. And disrespectful to send that to the Rec.
Whilst a big scoreline isn’t what I expect I hope to see saints put out the fight fairly early into the second half. If we are really honest that saints team shouldn’t have a chance with Hutchinson at 10. We struggled at scrum time last time round I hope now the scrum is more settled we should see some nice success there.
Good to say we more than did that. Game wrapped up by 50 mins. Protected everyone - now 2 weeks to the semi.
It is so impressive how quickly Ted Hill has got back to speed. He is back in the form of his life absolutely smashing people and carrying hard. Very impressive performances all round - going to make some of those decisions for the bench rather tricky.
We have come to expect the squad rotations and weakened teams this and it has rather diluted the satisfaction of results this season non more so than the Northampton v Gloucester game, not everyone in Northampton was happy about that but it laid the foundations for them to be comfortable in sending a weakened team to the Rec. Visiting fans yesterday were treated to a exciting day at the Rec but they would have had mixed feelings about their team. I have to say that with only 18 games these mis-matches have been disappointing for travelling fans. All clubs have done it so it has rather evened out through the season and on a plus side it has probably reduced the injury count. An exciting conclusion to the regular season with 7 clubs all in contention has perhaps given justification to this policy but looking through the eyes and minds of away supporters you do feel short changed. No such risk of that for the next game and as much as I don't like it JVG has managed the strategy very well, the momentum in Bath's favour. Not so Northampton, they have just played two mis matches and they have to start again for the Saracens game. I hope they are successful as a Bath V Northampton will be a great final. Saracens v Sale, no thank you. Overall it has been a super competition and has justified the cost of my season ticket for next season.
If you watch the replay of the game yesterday on TNT it is still punctuated by breaks in continuity which has spoiled the match in some ways for me at least the highlights on PRTV are continuous.

Bath Supporter Jack What a day!

If you are asking me, BSJ, I think so. (Guilty as charged yesterday😀).
OutsideBath Would rather have played Sarries at home in the semis because Ford always seems to have a blinder against Bath.
As it is I'm hoping to be in the final against Sarries, as we owe them one.
I think ford plays a blinder most weeks and especially in the big games. Saracens have for a very long time been ruthless in big games. I am still amazed they lost yesterday. It will not be easy, but I am delighted we are home to sale
There are some interesting parallels to the 2014/15 season. Saints finished top, Bath second, Leicester 3 and Saracens 4th.
In the last match of the season, Saints fielded a reserve team against Leicester and lost, giving them a home semi against Saracens - a decision that seemed odd at the time, and compounded when Saracens won at FG.
Bath had a stormer against Leicester and in the final against Saracens came a disappointing second (Watson's injury notwithstanding). I remember going to the final and being greeted by a sea of BBW. If the result had been decided on supporters, we'd have won by a landslide.
Saracens have form coming from 4th to win. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.
Very true Sarries are the only team with experience of finals, they will let’s say push the limits on offside, tackles and intimidation.
It’s new for saints and us, Sale are a complete unknown. All up in the air but the good thing is we have so big game players in Finn, Ben Spencer, Sam Underhill, Cam Redpath with Ewels and TDT not far behind.
We have one big game in us I reckon, two I’m not sure but anything can happen in a final if we get there.

Sale, coached by Alex Sanderson -formerly of Allianz/StonX will offer the same street smarts.
We need to play as the 2015 predecessors did and keep the ball away from those areas where "pushing the limits" go unnoticed, rack up an early lead and force them to chase the game.
And it shows the importance of picking up the bonus points, we had the same number of wins as Bristol but 6 more BPs means we get a home semi and they’re out of the playoffs.
Going to be tough game but that’s a given at this stage of the competition- my concern is that suggestions are that two officials are being touted for the semi finals-
1. Luke Pearce - expected.
2. Karl Dickson!!!! With suggestions that Dickson will also officiate the final.
Just don’t get it. I get it that as supporters we don’t always see eye to eye with officials and their decision making - but across all the boards the condemnation of one official - can we all be wrong - the fact the governing body has had to come out with official statements to justify certain performances that cannot be right can it?
Still all we can do is concentrate on our game and take the officiating out of the equation.
If Karl Dickson really was as bad as people make out he simply wouldn't continue to be chosen by Prem, European and World rugby to officiate the most important matches in rugby union. The only issue IMO is fan perception (because he comes across as smug and uses lots of hair gel I assume?).
Happy with whichever officials are chosen, they will have acheived that through merit.
I saw some interesting statistic stating that Saracens have won the majority of their knock out games in their away kit, and having a poor record in their home kit.
The theory being that as the season closes, the weather gets hotter and wearing white gives them an advantage in the sun.

Worked for us when we hammered Glaws in THAT final.
And I've still got the shirt, an absolute classic
And actually, thinking about it, didn't we regularly wear white in those finals?
My impression is we have lost a fair few posters recently, is the forum as popular as it was in terms of visitors.
I expected a more vociferous reaction to getting in the playoffs that we have seen.

Bath Hammer Where’s Ovalballer these days, the guy who criticised everything. I wonder what his take is now?
Bathovalballer was banned from this forum a long time ago - maybe 2 seasons?
From Bathovalballer to me earlier today (in a text):
"Please enlighten the troops with my recent messages of total support for the boys in BB&W and also my revised thoughts on Farleigh Towers now I have had the pleasure of visiting the place".

Suspect you'd see more activity on Facebook, which I'd guess has more active users.
Still lurking! Enjoying Bath's excellent progress and revamped successful culture. Sadly not actually able to get to matches but got the telly so not all is lost.
Also grateful that rest of family, who actively support the unmentionables have stopped being patronising.

I suspect many are concentrating on securing tickets!
One other positive from the weekend's results that I think is worth mentioning is how much of a boost it will be to the club to get an additional meaningful home fixture to help balance the books.
Whilst Bath are probably one of the more financially secure clubs at the moment, we're still not profitable, so the extra revenue generated from 14,000 spectators (assuming it sells out) could be quite noticeable when the next set of accounts are released.
Currently matchday revenue seems to be the most significant source of income for clubs, and though there have been some supplementary games this season (2 friendlies in January, Prem Cup home fixtures) they had so little riding on them that the ticket prices were cheap and they weren't sellouts so unlikely to have been particularly profitable. This home semi is a totally different beast given every attendee will have paid extra to be there (as not included in season tickets). Whilst it obviously would have been nice from a fan perspective for the club to include it on season tickets, I'm of the view that given the team's performances this season they've earned the right to charge for this game (although weirdly buying my season ticket seat was quite a bit cheaper than buying additional tickets to other games earlier in the season).
It must give everyone behind the scenes at Bath a real skip in their step, especially given the club has missed out on a few home fixtures of late (the match that got moved to Kingsholm last season, Quins pipping us to a home european fixture on points difference). Now it's just the small task of spending the next 2 weeks trying to top the razzmatazz of "Rec fest" and turn the ground into a seething fortress that will strike fear into the hearts of our opponents.

I know what you mean. Looking back down the thread there isn't a great amount of eulogising over what is a decent position for the club. In particular nothing much was made of the two Will Muir tries, both exceptional and worth watching over and over again. Horse doing what he does best and brilliance from the assistors, particularly the first try, a thing of absolute beauty and good enough to be try of the season.
The Muir moments kind of got lost in the many many other fantastic moments in the game IMO, but agree he was great (as were most of the others in Bath colours).
Muir is extremely good, always goes up for the high ball irrespective of risk but where he stands out for me is if you look at his tries often in horse corner they often start with him taking a poor pass, behind or low before brushing off challenges and busting through.

Being brutally honest... We always get more posts after a loss because there's more to argue and debate. Everyone agreeing that it's been a fantastic performance and season is a nice change after the past 8-9 years!

Don't think Bath will ever be a '..seething fortress' tbh, but the support this season has been decent. As to charging for the SF, it wasn't budgeted on the ST and I'd have been amazed if they offered the tickets to us free. I was fearful that they'd ask the stupid money they've been charging for the top Euro and Prem games so was pleasantly surprised at being charged £47, although given it's all automated I'm not quite sure what the £2 booking fee is for.
I hope we don’t underestimate Sale, 5 in a row, won at Sarries with a clear game plan. Ford, Manu and Roebuck and a few crazyilly physical South Africans it won’t be at all easy even if we are at home.

Manu did his hamstring. I doubt he'll be fit. I'm a lot more worried that his absence means that Sam James will start in the centres. Bosh we can handle, extreme rugby intelligence is a lot more difficult to counter.

Also it’s potentially more appealing to go online and moan whilst we’re playing badly but when we’re playing well people want to focus on the match.
Accepting all that this game was pretty unique wasn’t it? I would have expected a few of our peripheral visitors to comment.
Out of interest is the number of visitors rising or falling gents?

TBH, with the mess rugby has found itself in during and post Covid (aside, post-covid is no such thing, but you all know what I mean), I think viewership of rugby has decreased significantly, so I suspect that engagement on rugby forae would decrease similarly (probably on a delay, as you've got to be pretty die-hard to post on a dedicated forum).
Beyond that, there's the other factors mentioned, losses and poor performance brings people to their keyboards far more than winning and playing well. That's just human nature.
There's only so far a discussion of "what a brilliant day that was, we played well as a team, and I particularly liked this move, and that 5 minutes". Whilst a discussion of "screwed by the ref" "what an idiot to give away that stupid penalty" "it wasn't (favourite player)'s fault, it was his inside man's" "let's analyse this defensive lapse" "Coach Out" "you're no true fan" "can't we have some positivity for a change" "I'll be positive when the team shows some" can go on for way longer.
