COVENTRY go into tomorrow’s home game against Fylde boosted by the news that leading points scorer Cliffie Hodgson has committed his future to the Butts Park Arena club.

The South African, who began the season at fly-half before moving to his present position at full-back and has been an ever present, is the second highest scorer in National League One with 218 points and has played a key role for Cov since joining in the summer from Rotherham.

“Cliffie has re-signed for another 12 months which is great news for us,” said rugby director Phil Maynard.

“It’s a statement of intent and we’re pleased that he has clearly bought into the whole thing we are trying to do. Players like Cliffie will be central to our attempts to build a strong team that can challenge.”

Cov make one change to the side that started at Richmond two weeks ago with flanker Liam Munro coming off the bench to replace Jamie Harrop.

Winger Tom Harris returns from a hamstring injury on a replacements bench which includes Northampton Academy trio Dan Hobbs, Matt Williams and Alex Woolford.

Cov, who went down 22-20 to a last-gasp try at Fylde in October, suffered a similar fate at Richmond, where a converted penalty try from the final play gave the Londoners a 34-33 win, before sitting out last weekend while Fylde were returning to form with a 59-20 victory at Sedgley Park.

“That was a good win for them,” said Maynard. “They’ve got a couple of players back, and we know that if you give Fylde space they will exploit it. They ask questions all the time and like to play a free-flowing game.
