Connacht, buoyed by their encouraging performance away to Narbonne last weekend, ran riot at the University Grounds in Rotherham on Friday, scoring seven tries on their way to a facile pre-season win.

Galway native Danny Riordan ran in four tries in a very good display, including a first half hat-trick. Riordan, who also impressed in Narbonne when he scored one of Connacht's five tries, was sharp throughout.

Returning from the Ireland A's tour of North America, Conor McPhillips and John Muldoon also got in on the action as well as Andrew Farley, who rounded off a dominant Connacht display.

All seven tries were converted, five by David Slemen and two by Paul Warwick to round off an encouraging performance before the Magners League starts away to Border Reivers on September 1st.

Team manager Tim Allnutt was delighted with the display. "It was an encouraging display. The boys did exactly what we asked them to. "We are very happy with the pre-season, and this was a good display. We counter-attacked well and dominated up front. Overall, its a confidence inspiring performance going into the Magners League," said Allnutt.
