Injured Lomu facing two weeks out

Blues winger Jonah Lomu could be out until next month with an ankle injury. Lomu was helped off the field towards the end of Saturday's Celtic League win after twisting his ankle. But Blues coach Dai Young said: "Jonah's injury is not as bad as we thought and he hasn't broken anything.

"But he looks extremely doubtful for Wednesday's game and fingers crossed he will be back for the Connacht game."

Lomu had delivered his most impressive performance yet for the Blues as he made his first start since January.

But the New Zealand winger grimaced with pain as he fell awkwardly under a last-ditch Borders tackle which denied him a try.

Despite his obvious discomfort, Lomu still managed to get the ball away as he fell for Mark Lewis to score the Blues' fifth try in the 46-11 victory.

Young added: "Ankle injuries are not the kind of thing you get over in a couple of days and it was badly swollen after the game."

Andy Powell's season is over after he broke his thumb against the Borders. Powell's game lasted just 10 minutes as the number eight broke his thumb trying to charge down a kick.

"Andy's injury is more serious," said Young. "He has broken his thumb and looks like he will be out for at least six weeks. That means his season is probably over."
