Superstar full back, Jamie Roberts, has been awarded for his form with Cardiff RFC by being given a 2 year contract at the capital region. Having complete the full time parts of his medical studies, he is now free to continue art time, as Leinster fly half Filipe Contopomi has. Roberts was voted Cardiff RFC’s Player of the Year, as well as claiming the same accolade from the Welsh Rugby Writers Association, after returning from injury in November, scoring 10 tries in 17 appearances. The Ospreys had offered Roberts a similar package, but the Cardiff medical student rejected it straight off, claiming there was only one side he ever wanted to play for. The 6ft 5’ full back will turn 21 in November, and is expected to be a Welsh International shortly after the Rugby World Cup. He will learn massively from the very different, but equally as influential, Gareth Thomas and Ben Blair regarding the position, and life in regional rugby. He has already been training with the Welsh squad, during the 2007 Six Nations, and is expected to break into the Blues side early on n the season, with Blair switching to wing, covering Alfie (World Cup) and Czekaj (long term injury). Others are expected to follow, with Scott Roberts, Bradley Davies and Adam Powell expected to have renewed and promoted contracts announced. A host of Pontyprydd RFC players are also set to be promoted to the Cardiff Blues squad.
