As part of ‘Capture Cardiff’, a University project for journalism students in the Welsh capital, broadcaster Kathryn Collins took a detailed look at Cardiff Blues’ impending move to the new stadium, seeing if this really is the best for the fans…
As well as a short interview with myself, Kathryn meets Robert Nortser, Gareth Edwards and Call to Arms representative Neil MacSorley as she takes an outsider's stance to the wildly raging debate.

Already sent her a long rant along the lines of the major threads on here re. the rent bois future.
So much "analysis" of this move is based on emotion ...
"tradition holding us back" .... "it'll be better facilities for the fans" .... "CAP is falling apart"
The lemmings really have taken over! No one seems to want to
- analyse the business case
- ask why CAP has seen no investment for years
- ask what other clubs are doing (Scarlets build their own stadium, Dregs talking about building their own stadium and then there's the numerous examples in England).
- ask what happens in 15 years time when the Blues will have to renegotiate with no viable alternatives
- ask who really benefits from the move
- ask what happens to CAP
- analyse the business case
Did I mention analyse the business case? Just in case, then no one analyses the business case.

The girl wants to be a journalist therefore the ability to analyse is irrelevant. Emotion sells in Wales.

I forget we live in a throw away society, instead of fixing broken things we just bin and get a new one. Facilities and stadiums can be updated and renovated.

From a rugby perspective, are any supporters actually in favour of the move? From this board anyway, it seems No. Of course there will be some excited by the shiny, Ikea-esque new seats. But the lack of fan consultation in the whole approach sums up exactly what is wrong with rugby union in Wales, Britain and for that matter sport in general across the whole of the United Kingdom.

The board did consult with supporters, but just ignored pretty much all of the concerns. That is because the move isn't for reasons positive to Cardiff RFC ltd.

T-C, what do you mean by a "rugby perspective"? Do you mean taking into account that the club needs to be run as a professional business and make money? Or something else.
I've no doubt that the theatre-goers will flock to the stadium for the big games. Trouble is, the fixture list is threadbare as it is - there simply aren't sufficient "big games".
No EDF and Connacht, Glasgow, Edinburgh doesn't excite anybody.
PS: Shame the terrace culture will disappear. It became an integral part of going to games for me.
