Common sense prevailed today as the Magners League anounced it was dropping it's 'Free Weekend' rule.

Last season saw the introduction of 4-point ruling; which saw teams who had no fixture gain 4 free league points, the equivalent of a match win.

However it became confusing when some teams had 8 free points while others only had 4; with a further 4 to come at some time.

It also meant that teams had supposedly played 22 matches at the end of the season, when of course in fact, it was just 20.

The news will please fans who saw the idea as insanity from the start. The new season kicks off on September 1st, with Cardiff Blues taking on Munster at the Arms park.
