Head coach Dai Young has added to speculation that the Cardiff Blues playing squad will have yet more new faces come September 2nd. Rumers had been flying since it was reported that he and chairman Peter Thomas were in South Africa and New Zealand respectively.

Now the former Lions prop has spoken out, confidently, about the regions squad and chances for next year,

"Xavier Rush, Marc Stcherbina and Mike Phillips were big signings for us, the coaching team's in place and everything is going in the right direction."

And Young went on to say that he is excited about the prospects of next season, despite a poor few years,

"We had huge injury problems last year, but it can't be our turn this season. We've learnt lessons and are excited."

As for the squad itself, he said he felf it should be bigger, which implies that he is close to sealing one or two more names in the next few weeks leading up to the Celtic League opener at Galway.

"We're still looking to strengthen the squad, expectation is always huge at Cardiff and we need to be competing at the top."

Either way, the  Blues boss needs a good season. Young, who spent his entire proffesional career with Cardiff, goes into his 4th season without any silverware or even qualification from our European group. A big push in Europe and the Celtic League would lift the fans and ease some of the pressure off his shoulders.
