Cardiff Blues and RFC winger Dean Dewdney has been forced to retire following a serious neck injury.

Dean Dewndey arrived in Briton in 1994 as a trainee teacher at Bristol's Clifton Collage. While in his first year of studies, he joined local rugby side Clifton RFC, but within a few months, he has been snapped up by Bristol's full squad.

Then in 2001, he joined Neath after completing his degree, looking for a career in Rugby, however it didn't work out with the Welsh All Blacks, and by August 2002, he was signed up as part of Cardiff RFC.

He swiftly became a fan favourite at the Arms Park, with committed and whole-hearted performances, he was a credit to the club, region and himself.

He was included in the Blues first ever squad, and was a key player during the 04-05 season in particular. His finest game was possibly against the Warriors in 2004 at , having replaced the injured Richard Smith at scrum half, he lit up the backs, and supplied them with quick ball, character and flair, and the side were unlucky to lose 30-26.

This season, he made just 2 appearances for the Blues, and his first-team chances were cut with the signing of Jonah Lomu. He went on to sign for Cardiff RFC, and has, as expected, played his heart out in a desperate bid to keep his side in the premiership.

The 5 '10 winger cum scrum half made 58 appearances for Cardiff and the Blues scoring 18 tries. He also has 3 cpas for his native Zimbabwe.
