Time to hit Belfast and paint the town......PINK !

The weekend of January 9th - 12th: Leicester Tigers travel to Belfast to play Ulster in the third leg of the 2004 Heineken European Cup; and there is a small number, and hopefully there will be many more, of Tigers supporters who are planning to hit Belfast and paint the town ................ PINK!!!!!!

OK - so what is this all about?

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.........

During the trip to see the Stade Francais vs. Tigers, we had all had a few bevvies, as you do, and had returned to our coach in order to head off into the centre of Paris for the evening. The topic of our next HEC away game against Ulster cropped up: who was going, how you get there, where you stay ......

Now, one of our number, a young lady who we shall call Nikki {don't worry: names have not been changed to protect the innocent!} reminded us that she will be celebrating her ....... well.......thirty tenth birthday on the very weekend that we travel to Belfast. For those who do not know Nikki, she is, by her own definition, a 'pink bird'. She wears alot of pink: she carries pink bags, paints her nails bright pink, she drinks Smirnoff Pink {OK - I made that last one up!!}, but you get the idea. Nikki is Barbie's bubbly, extrovert aunt.

The following conversation took no more than two minutes, but by the end of that two minutes, we had the support of {almost} the entire coach, to make the Ulster weekend a pink-theme weekend.

Wait, wait.... don't click the mouse button just yet, there's more to it than that!!

The original idea was for a few of us to wear something pink on Nikki's birthday, just for a laugh.

Then it turned into a 'lets have a pink-theme weekend, blokes and all!'

Then it turn into a 'lets make it a charity fund raising weekend! The colour that Breakthrough Breast Cancer use in their advertising campaig is pink, so let's try to raise some money for that'

So, that is where it all started. A growing number of Tiger supporters, men and women, are making the effort to raise awarness for this deserving cause by wearing something visibly pink. This does not mean that blokes have to cross-dress, wear lipstick and call themselves Alicia.

Just wear something pink on mach day.

Now the crux of this is that we would like to raise some money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. So, what we need is people to show there support by sponsoring us in the form of a donation, no matter how much, and all money raised goes directly to the charity.

We have even got a signed rugby ball (by many tigers stars past and present) to auction, kindly donated by one of our number in aid of this deserving cause - more details of this to follow later.
